Long hours at screens can leave eyes tired and dry. Small changes to your setup and habits can make a meaningful difference.

Digital eye strain describes a group of symptoms — tired eyes, dryness, blurred vision and headaches — associated with prolonged screen use. It is common and usually manageable.

Try the 20-20-20 habit

Every 20 minutes, look at something about 20 feet (6 metres) away for at least 20 seconds. It is a simple reminder to relax your focusing and to blink fully.

Adjust your workspace

  • Position screens slightly below eye level, about an arm's length away.
  • Reduce glare from windows and overhead lighting.
  • Increase text size rather than leaning in.

If discomfort persists, an eye examination can check for uncorrected prescription or dry eye disease.
